Presenter: Thomas Mayo
Abstract
Thomas will speak to the current state of Indigenous Affairs and how we got here. He will speak to what’s next using his formula to reach true reconciliation – an Australia where Indigenous people feel they have achieved justice, and where recognition is imbedded in our national institutions and psyche.
Bio
Thomas Mayo is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander man who lives on Larrakia land in Darwin. He is the Assistant National Secretary of the MUA, and an award winning author, essayist, orator and a signatory to the Uluru Statement from the Heart. His advocacy and leadership for worker’s rights and for justice and recognition for Indigenous peoples spans over twenty years. Thomas is currently on the board of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, and is on the steering group for the First Nations Clean Energy Network.
