Literacy mediators play a critical role in supporting adults with literacy gaps and enabling access as they navigate a world highly dependent on literacy skills. Mediators develop a unique set of skills and experiences that allow them to be effective and compassionate supporters. Drawing from a recent study into the experiences of supporters of adults with literacy gaps, this webinar will briefly explore themes of collective shame and responsibility at societal inaction to address Australia’s adult literacy needs, critically reflexive practices that allow mediators to be effective supporters, and communicative expertise in mediating literacy interactions.
