The Department of Education, Skills and Employment have contacted ACAL about the recent Federal Budget 2020−21 announcement that the Australian Government is investing $2.8 million over three years from 2020−21 to 2022−23 to develop a new national framework for foundation skills.

The new framework will inform and guide the delivery of foundation skills and increase foundation skills support. This is an important step toward ensuring access for all Australians to these critical skills.

The national framework will be underpinned by a scoping study to examine in detail: models of foundation skills assessment and training delivery in each jurisdiction; current funding models; and best practice approaches.

The study will build on the 2012 National Foundation Skills Strategy for Adults by reviewing what has changed and what can be enhanced and renewed.

ACAL have thanked the Department for this opportunity to consult and welcome this initiative.
