The adult literacy and numeracy stream of the Graduate Diploma in TESOL and Applied Linguistics at the University of Technology Sydney is a course for people who want to develop the knowledge and skills to teach English language, literacy and numeracy to adults in community, vocational and workplace education settings.
UTS has a history of over 30 years in high quality adult literacy and numeracy teacher education and research. It has strong connections with the professional community and has co-hosted annual conferences of the Australian Council of Adult Literacy, bringing international researchers to share contemporary research with the practitioner community.
Applications are open for students who want to commence this course in the second half of 2021. The course is 1-year fulltime, and 2-year parttime. Previous teaching qualifications may attract some credit recognition. The course can be studied fully online, but for people who prefer on-campus study, several subjects may also be studied on campus, assuming the COVID situation continues to improve. There are two periods of supervised teaching practicums in the course. Many of our graduates are working in leadership roles in the provider organisations.
There are a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs). If you qualify for one of the CSPs, the cost of course will be substantially reduced.
