The census will be held in August 2021. There are many resources that could be used or adapted with learners at Resources 2021 Census (abs.gov.au)
The Reading Writing Hotline has been proactive in approaching the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to follow up on feedback regarding difficulties faced by adults with literacy gaps in completing the census form when there are no longer door to door surveyors.
The RWH team discussed strategies for the 2021 census including a script for census call centre staff when taking calls from this cohort and the availability of Census staff to assist with form completion via phone. The RWH will be involved in creating a video to assist people completing the form for the next Census in 2026.
