Refreshing the Research Commitment: Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Research to strengthen collective impact

This Forum recognises the substantial body of work current available to inform adult English language, literacy and numeracy practice, policy and models of organisational provision.  Australia has at times led the way in promoting strong practitioner research networks, industry engaged consortia and productive alliances with government agencies and policy makers.  Such work involves constant renewal of alliances. This Forum aims to draw on the knowledge base of local practitioners and networks, the ACAL National and State-based adult literacy councils, university researchers, community groups and industry partners to shape a renewed debate and about Adult LLN research and its role in promoting a research-rich and engaged profession nationally.

This panel session will canvas the following issues:

  • Australian adult LLN research initiatives and take home messages over the decades
  • Lessons from international studies
  • Opportunities and challenges in strengthening research-practice-theory engagement
  • Adult LLN learners, educators, managers, advocates, policy makers & researchers: research expectations and essentials.

‘Page not found’: Adult LLN research, archive and memory in a digital age

To recognise ACAL’s 40 years of sustained advocacy for adult literacy policy, research and provision this session will showcase LLN artefacts, archival materials and examples of engagement over the decades. The ‘digital age’ presents particular challenges for how a field learns from its history over time.
