2014 ACAL Conference Gold Coast 2-4 October

Stories from the field - activity lunchtime Friday

‘Stories from the field: sharing your stories with the National Foundation Skills Strategy Project Community of Practice’

Chisholm Institute Foundation College staff, Ann Irving, Elizabeth Rowswell, Daniella Mayer, Tracey Amman and Frankie den-Hartog.

The activity involves two LLN professionals participating in a 20-30 minute conversation that is guided by questions. Using these as cues, both participants can garner and record pertinent experience and skills that identify some of the attributes of the LLN practitioner. The activity was recently trialled in a National Foundation Skills Strategy (NFSS) Project – Community of Practice (COP) and it was deemed a valuable activity by all involved. It has the added benefit of people being able to share their stories and see where their professional practice intersects and diverges. This has been shown to be an affirming experience.

The activity has been designed by Louise Wignall to amass and identify the skills and experience of LLN practitioners. It supports the NFSS Project priority to identify and describe quality professional practice in foundation skills. Consolidation of this activity, together with other initiatives will contribute to recommendations on developing a framework schema for professional practice in foundation skills.

This is a way to meet and discuss with a fellow LLN professional how your career has developed. A summary of this event will be provided to ACAL to be published online in the 2014 ACAL Conference proceedings.

Project reports and news are available through the National Foundation Skills Strategy Project website.
